The interview of Vice-Admiral Christopher W. Grady was recorded in January 2017 by Florent Plana during the 50th anniversary of the Sixth Fleet’s departure which took place in Villefranche-sur-Mer (France) .
Vice-Admiral Christopher W. Grady tells us the importance of this event, which represents the historical links between Villefranche and the Sixth Fleet, but also the importance of the strong relationship between the US Navy and the French Navy.

Interview of Radm Philip A. Dur (USN Ret.)
The interview of Radm Philip A. Dur was recorded in January 2017 by Florent Plana during the 50th anniversary of the Sixth Fleet’s departure which took place in Villefranche.
Phil Dur served in the US Navy during 30 years from 1965 to 1995. He came for the 1st time in the harbor of Villefranche in the sixties while serving as an officer aboard the USS Little Rock CLG-4. A few years later, he came back as the CO of the USS Comte de Grasse and the USS Yorktown. Then again in 1992, when commanding the Saratoga battle group, he brought the USS Thomas S. Gates in the harbor of Villefranche for the 4th of July.

Interview of Radm Thomas G. Lilly (USN Ret.)
The interview of Radm Thomas G. Lilly was recorded in January 2017 by Florent Plana during the 50th anniversary of the Sixth Fleet’s departure which took place in Villefranche.
Tom Lilly served in the US Sixth Fleet as a supply officer aboard the USS Betelgeuse between 1955 and 1957. He came back with his wife Constance and a couple of friends in 1998 and met Josiane Blouin, the daughter of the famous Mom Germaine, and her son Thierry at the restaurant la Mere Germaine.

Produced in 2017 in partnership with ESRA Côte d’Azur movie school, this documentary movie retraces the History of the US Sixth Fleet presence in Villefranche-sur-Mer through the memoirs of US Sixth Fleet veterans, their children, and Villefranche people with whom they always kept very strong links. Includes old movies and nowadays videos filmed in january 2017 during the 50th anniversary of the Sixth Fleet’s departure in Villefranche with the participation of MC CLIC Monaco.

“The US Navy and the French Riviera during the Cold War. Issues, Organization and Impact of the U.S. Navy on the coastline of the French Riviera, from Theoule-sur-Mer to Menton (1948-1967).” The idea is to show the rationale behind the ports of call and the Villefranche base in the overall strategy of the Sixth fleet in the Mediterranean, the structures of the American presence which stemmed from it and their consequences on the region and population.
